Everything you need to know about our Minimal/Moderate Sedation Certification Course — RCDSO authorization, course formats, registration, and our refund policy.
Sedation authorization (RCDSO)
Sedation is a regulated procedure under the authority of the RCDSO. Dentists must be appropriately registered with and authorized by the RCDSO to administer sedation.
No. Completion of the course alone does not authorize a dentist to provide sedation. Dentists must obtain authorization from the RCDSO before administering sedation.
To obtain authorization, dentists must submit an application to the RCDSO, which includes:
As part of the RCDSO application process, dentists must indicate whether they are applying for a visiting or non-visiting permit. With a non-visiting permit, the sedation provider does not bring the required equipment with them — the necessary equipment is supplied by the facility.
Dentists must also identify the facility where moderate sedation will be administered. Regardless of whether a dentist holds a visiting or non-visiting moderate sedation authorization, the facility must also hold an appropriate facility permit, which may include:
Type B facilities have limited sedation equipment — a visiting sedation provider is generally required to bring most of the necessary medications and equipment. Type A facilities have the required sedation equipment and medications available onsite and are therefore suitable for dentists holding a non-visiting authorization permit.

Payment & refund policy
A full refund is given if the cancellation is made anytime before two weeks prior to the scheduled course date.
Cancellation by the registrant within two weeks of the course date warrants a refund, deducting a $250 non-refundable fee. Regrettably, no refunds will be provided for cancellations made after the course date; however, credit for a future course can be extended.
If the course itself needs to be cancelled or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances, candidates will have the choice of a full refund or carrying over to the next course date.
